The Liberty Issue stamps beginning in 1954 have an interesting component of complexity as the Bureau of Engraving and Printing began experiments in printing on 'dry' paper (moisture content 5-10% compared to the previous 'wet' printing with moisture content of 15-35%). The specialists seek out both varieties in building a Liberty Series collection although the value difference is minimal and most stamp albums do not offer spaces for the varieties. The 'dry' printings show whiter paper, a higher sheen on the surface, feel thicker and stiffer. Of course, a collector would require one of each variety in order to make the distinction. We do not make the distinction in maintaining our stock.
