The introduction of Commemorative Postage Stamps began in 1893 with the 'Columbians', a set of 16 stamps for the World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago, May 1 - October 30, 1893, celebrating the 400th Anniversary of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus.
