U.S. Stamps Scott Numbers 230-547

The introduction of Commemorative Postage Stamps began in 1893 with the 'Columbians', a set of 16 stamps for the World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago, May 1 - October 30, 1893, celebrating the 400th Anniversary of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus.

Here you will also find the first Bureau Issues of definitive stamps, which are those stamps printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.

The Washington Franklin Issues, which ran from 1908-1920 (Scott Numbers 331//547) are listed in their own section. See the category listing at left for a extensive listing of this intriguing issue.
