U.S. #325 Used Fractional Usage

U.S. #325 Used Fractional Usage
U.S. #325 used in 1934 when the 1-1/2cent postage rate was in effect. An interesting cover for postal markings. The fractional usage was not accepted by the Kansas City Post Office and the cover was held for postage due, plus the cover was received without contents, as indicated by the postal marking and signature of the KC Post Office.

Known as Fractional Usages, stamps were sometimes cut in half (or some other fraction) and placed on an envelope in an attempt to pay postage equal to one half of the face value of the whole stamp. Occasionally an approved practice, sometimes tolerated, especially when there was a shortage of stamps in a needed. Fractional usages are generally collected on cover. One half of a stamp is known as a bisect.
