There are 14 independent countries and 12 dependent overseas territories. The largest sovereign state is Australia, occupying about 86% of the region's total area. The smallest independent country is Nauru, which is so small a visitor can drive around the island in less than an hour.. Australian Antarctic Territory Stamps

The Australian Antarctic Territory began issuing stamps in 1957 to honor Australian Polar Expeditions. While issued in the AAT these stamps were also valid for postage use in Australia. Marine Topical collectors must have the issues featuring the S.Y. Nimrod and the S.S. Morning in addition to 14 additional ships of fame.

Stamps of the Cook Islands and Aitutaki

Cook Islands incompasses 15 Islands in the South Pacific, extending over 850,000 square miles of ocean. The first Cook Island stamps were issued in 1892 and Aitutaki Overprinted stamps first appeared in 1903. Today Aitutaki is a part of Cook Islands while maintaining its own postal authority. Cook Islands is attached to New Zealand while also maintaining its own postal authority.

Niuafo'ou is also know as Tin Can Island

Niuafo'ou is a volcano located on an underwater ridge 190 kilometres (120 mi) west of the line of all the other volcanoes of Tonga. Also know as Tin Can island because the island lacks a natural harbor, so mail was delivered and picked up by strong swimmers who would retrieve packages, "sealed up in a biscuit tin" and thrown overboard from passing ships. Today the idland produces some of the worlds most beautiful stamps.

Stamps of the Kingdom of Tonga

An Oceania Nation, Tonga became a protected state under a Treaty of Friendship with Britain in 1900, and the stamp issues continue to reflect a relationship with Great Britain and British Royalty. The treaty posted no higher permanent representative on Tonga than a British Consul (1901–1970). Under the protection of Britain, Tonga maintained its sovereignty, and remains the only Pacific nation to retain its monarchical government.
